Six months in, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to present an array of challenges, forcing nearly all types of basic service delivery – including, but not limited to, humanitarian response – to drastically adapt. As the outbreak continues to evolve, the impact of the disease and measures implemented to control the spread vary across contexts. All actors, including those that focus on identifying and mitigating the risks of GBV, have been learning and adapting along the way. As a result, good practices for delivering aid and services under such conditions has not yet been consistently documented or shared.
The overarching objective of the workshops is to take stock of new and/or changed GBV risks related to COVID-19 and GBV risk mitigation actions (new or adapted) undertaken in the context of the COVID-19 response - by sharing promising practices, lessons learned and identifying common challenges to be addressed through inter-sectoral strategies.
The workshops aim to highlight, document and disseminate:
- Peer-to-peer learning on good practices and challenges in risk mitigation related to the COVID-19 response from field-level actors in the above-noted sectors and regions
- The degree to which GBV risk mitigation actions have changed and/or been adapted to the COVID-19 context, why and how
- Strategic discussions to identify critical collective issues and consider ways forward for future problem solving and solutions on GBV risk mitigation in the context of public health emergencies
- Lessons learned from the current response to support knowledge and capacity development of humanitarian staff to adapt GBV risk mitigation actions in light of the impacts of COVID-19
