GBV Guidelines

The purpose of the Guidelines for Integrating Gender-Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action (GBV Guidelines) is to assist humanitarian actors and communities affected by armed conflict, natural disasters and other humanitarian emergencies to coordinate, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a set of core actions for mitigation of gender-based violence (GBV) across all sectors of humanitarian response.

The overall goal of the comprehensive Guidelines for Integrating Gender-Based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action "GBV Guidelines" is to support humanitarian stakeholders in fulfilling their responsibility to protect all those affected by crises, by:

  1. Reducing risk of GBV by implementing GBV risk mitigation strategies from pre-emergency to recovery stages of humanitarian action.
  2. Promoting resilience by strengthening national and community-based systems that mitigate GBV, and by enabling survivors and those at risk of GBV to access specialized care and support.
  3. Aiding recovery of communities and societies by supporting local and national capacity to create lasting solutions to the problem of GBV.

What is Gender-based Violence Risk Mitigation?

GBV risk mitigation comprises a range of activities within humanitarian response that aim to first identify GBV risks and then take specific actions to reduce those risks. GBV risk mitigation.
